Ambassador Katri Viinikka has served as Finland’s Ambassador for Democracy and Rule of Law since 2025. Prior to this appointment, she was Ambassador for Gender Equality at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. Between 2015 and 2018, she served as Ambassador of Finland to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and as Finland’s Permanent Representative to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). 

A career diplomat, Ambassador Viinikka has held several senior positions within the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, including Director for United Nations and Global Affairs in the Political Department from 2010 to 2015 and Chief of Cabinet to the Minister for Foreign Affairs. Her overseas assignments have included postings to Finland’s embassies in Brussels, Berlin and Bonn. She joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland in 1992.
