2022 marks the eighth year of the International Day of Democracy event in Brussels (IDD22), which will be held from 14-16 September. After two years of an entirely online event, this year’s celebration will include an in-person event in the Committee of the Regions and online seminars.
The theme of this year’s IDD22 is ‘Democracy in an era of Geopolitics’. The prestigious line-up of speakers will include: Abdalla Hamdok, former Prime Minister of Sudan, Rana Ayyub, prominent journalist from India, and Helena Konig, Deputy Secretary General for Economic and Global Affairs, EEAS.
Since 2015, the Brussels International Day of Democracy has established itself as the go-to democracy event marking the International Day of Democracy. The event is co-organised by leading democracy support organisations in Brussels, namely: European Endowment for Democracy (EED), European Partnership for Democracy (EPD), International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), the European Network of Political Foundations, and Carnegie Europe.
