JOSE ANTONIO MORENO DÍAZ
President of the EESC Fundamental Rights and Rule of Law Group
Jose Antonio Moreno Diaz is lawyer- attorney at law since 1991, specialised in criminal law and international law, focussing on migration and asylum and human rights.
He is equally the confederal policy officer and legal advisor of the Spanish largest trade union “Comisiones Obreras” with matters pertaining to asylum and immigration. In this capacity he is a member of the tripartite immigration work commission of the Spanish Ministry of Social Security, Inclusion and Immigration.
He is member of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) since 2015.
Taking into account the situation of the Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights across EU, he proposed in 2016 an own-initiative opinion to check FFRR & RoL from CSOs perspective across EU. In the follow-up of this opinion, in 2018 he was the founder and former President of Fundamental Rights and Rule of Law Group at EESC.
Also, he was founder of the Spanish antiracist and antifascist NGO “S.O.S Racismo España”.
Recently, he has been EESC rapporteur in both opinions dealing with violence against women and girls, first about EC first proposal on directive against GBV and later by his own initiative focussing on GBV as a Fundamental Rights issue across EU.
